Exercises
Week 1
Reflection:
Drawing perspective drawings has always been a big weakness of mine, so I struggled a bit with this exercise, especially since we only had a short time limit to draw each picture. However, I felt more confident with my strokes as each drawing progressed.
Week 2
Reflection:
I found this exercise to be quite fun since I enjoy crosshatching. This exercise allowed me to have a better understanding of shadows on 3D objects, and different perspectives as well. I wasn't very familiar with the perspectives of curved shapes so this helped me to practice drawing those.
Week 3
Reflection:
I don't think I did a particularly good job in this exercise as I didn't really understand the main subject. I should've made the shapes more dynamic and played around the the perspectives of the vehicles. However, I played it safe and kept all of them only face one side. But this exercise gave me inspiration to explore making vehicles using unique shapes.
Project 1
Reflection:
For the 1st project, I was inspired by cyberpunk/sc-fi media such as Blade Runner and Cyberpunk 2077. I wanted to create a world where planets are facing war and crime runs rampant. The vehicles I created relate to this concept. It was quite fun to explore the purposes of each aspect of the vehicles and how they could contribute in this scenario. It was also interesting to use everyday objects as the basis for my vehicles, and it made me more observant of the environment around me and how it could inspire me in future projects.
Project 2
Reflection:
It was a little difficult for me to come up with designs for my vehicles as I wasn't familiar with cars or tanks. After searching for references from games and movies, I got the gist of what I could change in a vehicle to make them unique for a zombie/apocalypse theme. Thanks to the program called sketchup, it made it a lot more easier to create my vehicles. I found it to be a really fun process, especially painting them.
Overall Reflection
Throughout the weeks, I've improved a lot in this subject. Since drawing vehicles or props has always been a big weakness of mine, I was surprised to see how much my skill has changed. The weekly sketching exercises have helped me improve my drawing skills by making me more confident in my lines and it gives me a better understanding of objects at different angles. The program called Sketchup which was used for my project 2 was incredibly helpful as well, but also quite difficult to use. I found it challenging to understand the controls or how to navigate the interface. However, I quickly got the hang of it and I plan to use this for my future projects that involve vehicles/props. By exploring different concepts of vehicles, I discovered new and unique ways that vehicles could be designed, and using specific elements that enhances a certain theme. I could not have achieved these outcomes without feedback from Mr Redzwan, who gave a lot of helpful tips on what I could approve on. Overall, it's been a fun and insightful experience.
