Experiences
Since I've never done typography prior to this semester, I was a little nervous starting out and admittedly, for the first few exercises I was a little lost as to what to do. In particular, I was pretty lost trying to navigate through illustrator and indesign. While I was excited to learn new things during class, I couldn't help but feel somewhat nervous whenever a new task was assigned. I kept thinking to myself that I couldn't do well. Luckily, Mr Vinod and Mr Shamsul were there to guide me through the whole way, giving us helpful tips as to what is considered "good" and "bad" typography.
Observations
I've realised just how much I improved throughout these 14 weeks. From not knowing a single thing about typography, to being able to create my font and even animate my own design! I really feel like this class has helped me improve immensely and I feel much more confident about my own skills. Despite that, I know that I still have a long way to go to become a better student and mastering the techniques.
Findings
I found that I've started to become more observant to how different typefaces affects the message of different designs, especially on billboards that I pass by on a daily basis. I noticed things that I usually wouldn't if it were not for the tips that I've learned during class. I also think that being more conscious of these aspects can help me in my future works, and find out the elements that mix well together and the ones that don't mix.
