Week 1: Exercise 1
During our first class of photoshop we were introduced to the basics such as copy and pasting, changing the saturation to match the colors, adding shadow etc. I wasn't particularly familiar with photoshop so I found the tips to be incredibly helpful. One fact that I found really useful was the fact that if you enlarge an image after it has been shrunk it will lose pixels which means the quality of the image will drop. If adding a high quality image onto a low quality one, it is better to lower the quality of the overall image to make it blend.
We started off the class with editing captain marvel and adding shazam into the hearst mansion which is this picture:
Our task was then to edit ourselves into the hearst mansion and make it seem as natural as possible.
I cropped a picture of myself sitting and pasted it at the edge of the pool. I made another copy, reflected it and flipped it to the other axis for the reflection. To make it blend with the pool, I lowered the opacity and elongated it slightly. Following the teacher's tip, I created a shadow using a black airbrush.
Week 2: Exercise 2
We used a couple of images to create one singular image.
Here are the pictures that we had to mix:
Here's my first attempt:
We learned how to crop out the house and paste it onto the dark background. I added some shadows to the bottom of the house so that it could blend with the grass. To mimic the reflection of the moon, I created a black and white gradient at the top of the house to make it brighter. Lastly, I slowly cropped out the ghost lady and pasted her in the house, while making sure the lower part of her was covered by the walls of the house.
Our second exercise was to put a background for the house. I decided to use a cloudy blue sky and I made the house bluer and brighter.

Week 3: Exercise 3
In this lesson, we learned how to re-color black and white photos, specifically portraits of people. We heavily focused on vector masks to help color different parts of the face. Here are the pictures we had to work with:
Here's my edit:
I had a bit of trouble trying to get the skin tone for the woman. I asked Mr Jeffrey for advice and he told me an efficient tip I could use. Using an image of Emma Watson, he zoomed into the skin and cropped a small portion of it, then enlarged it onto the woman. This gives her a much more natural tone.
Week 4: Exercise 4
Today we learned about how we could add texture to picture. One thing that I found really helpful was the blend mode called multiply, as it is able to make texture look much more natural. We were also taught to distort and wrap the texture layer onto the main layer so that it follows the shape more naturally.
Here are the pictures that we had to combine:
Here's the result!
For the first exercise we had to mix a flat image of a flag onto a cloth texture, this gives it a 3d feel.
We were then given the same man from the previous lesson. Here are the pictures that we were given:
My attempt:
We then began working on people. We were given an image of a man and Mr Jeffrey helped guide us through how we could make the snake skin seem natural on the persons face. With the use of our previous tools such as vector masks and shadow with airbrush, I was able to do a pretty decent job on it.
After the short tutorial, we were then put to the test on how we could do it with textures and images we've found. I decided to combine two unusual subjects together: a rabbit and a leopard texture. Initially the leopard fur was too saturated and it didn't match with the over all environment. I then remembered that we were taught about an option called "match color" which we were briefly taught about in a previous lesson. To make it even more natural, I used a black airbrush for the shadows on the lower part of the rabbit to give it more volume.
Moving on from animals, I focused back on humans. I thought that the idea of mixing colourful tiles on a human face would be really cool. After playing around with the saturation and contrast I was finally satisfied with the results. I also added a bit of shadow to the face to make certain features more prominent.

For my final image, I used a basket weaving texture and placed it onto this woman's skin. At first, I set the blend to multiply, however it didn't look particularly good. So, I changed the blend mode to overlay and I found that it looked much better. I'm really happy with this piece as the colors really match one another.
Week 5: Exercise 5
During this lesson, we weren't given a tutorial but instead we were tasked to recreate a photo using our own textures and objects along with the skills we've learned in photoshop.
