Project 2: Sense Of A Place

For our 2nd project we are tasked to choose a location and express the sense of it in any type of format. I chose Ikea as it's a place I frequently go to and I quite like the atmosphere it has. Here are the pictures I will be compiling:

As I was looking at the pictures I took, I realized that they gave me a somewhat comforting feeling, like I was at "home". I went at night which further emphasized on the cozy feeling as Ikea was slowly emptying out. To highlight on this feeling I decided to make my composition in primarily warm colors. 

Firstly, I took the picture of the crowd as my main background. 

I then added the ceiling with baskets and ropes to add movement to the piece.

This was based on the fibonacci sequence, in which I tried to direct the viewer's attention to the blue bag, followed by the baskets and down to the other objects.

Next up, I added a faded image the shelves and boards to emphasize on the homey feeling. The small hints of green and blue compliments the main palette.

To create more pattern and movement, I overlayed the image of a light I took. I found that the spiral texture it has is quite interesting, and I feel like it brings more life to the piece.

Additionally, I put in some words I found that were on the walls of Ikea, which really defines who they are as a brand.

Lastly, I made sure it was aligned with the rule of thirds to make my composition pleasing to look at.
